Sperm Whale & Dolphin Watching

Sperm Whales are the most common. The Blue Whale (largest mammal in the world), Minke, Melon-Headed and Dwarf Sperm whales are also spotted in kalpitiya marine area. You’ll see whales along the coast, just metres beyond the Reef. However November to December and March to April showcases the sperm whales.

Diving

With several kilometres of unspoilt coastline encircled by a coral barrier reef that protects the turquoise lagoon offers exclusive diving experiences to its visitors all year round.

Wilpattu National Park

Largest national park in Sri Lanka, varying natural habitats; coastal belt, natural lakes (villus), rocky outcrops, scrublands, and open grasslands provides home for numerous species of animals. Among the species are 31 mammals.
The biggest draws in Wilpattu are Leopards (Panthera pardus kotiya) and Sloth bears (Melursus ursinus). Apart from those two mammals are Asian Elephants (Elephas maximus), Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, jackals, sambhur, barking deer, mouse deer Wild Pig, Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) and Mugger Crocodiles. This national park is the safe home for hundreds of Varity of animals and species.

Kayaking and Canoeing

The Blue Lagoon is one of the best locations for kayaking. showcasing the lifecycle of the reef as well as marine life interaction. Look out for soft corals, sponges, hundreds of marine fish.

Deep Sea Fishing

Kalpitiya is the perfect spot for deep sea fishing, especially when sea is really calm during the low wind season.

Sea Kayaking

Kalpitiya is an idyllic location for Sea Kayaking. Its beautiful vast protected lagoons offer great paddling experiences. From mangroves mazes to river mouths, as well as huge crystal clear lagoons & isolated islets. And for the more experienced paddlers, open water crossings are available.

Sailing and Boat Tours

The islets around Kalpitiya offer great potential for catamaran or yacht excursions – most of which include snorkelling trips and barbecues.
